'Devon Fields 1, 2 , 3' SOLD

I have enjoyed painting this over three canvases! A triptych! I have used thick acrylic paint and a palette knife for experiment with paint application. I like the blocky effect you can achieve working like this and it stops you getting too detailed. I wanted to explore the patchwork effect of the fields in Devon and the way the sun catches them.

'Pondo' SOLD

Here is a piece of work I did in oil pastels for a change. They are great to work in once you get used to them! I loved the way this woman's eyes are hidden under the head-dress she is wearing.

'Caswell' SOLD

I am doing a series of landscapes from a holiday I had two Summers ago on The Gower Peninsula in Wales! Stunning scenery, although the sun did not shine much! Ah well,.... sometimes the soft tones of a grey day can be more interesting to paint. I painted this in acrylics and used a metallic silver to mix with the sky colour to give it a lovely subtle shine. I like using acrylic silver paint as it makes the other paints more translucent and gives a lovely sheen.

'Mumbles'

'Mumbles'
Acrylic on Canvas Board (30x30cm)
For Sale £75 (inc worldwide shipping)

I gave myself a time limit to paint today's piece in only one hour! It is a great ideas as it stops you being too precious about what you are painting and makes you really look at what the 'essence' of the subject is! I hope you like the results!

This was worked from a photograph taken while on holiday near Mumbles in Wales. I liked the way the sun suddenly came out, (it had been a very wet week!) and lit the sea.

Second Cup - SOLD

I really enjoyed the daily piece I did yesterday of the illy cup so I have painted it again today.

I had a really bad painting day yesterday! : ( Started an oil painting of a landscape and was so frustrated with it, I wiped it clean! Will have to work on oils and get the hang of them again! Then I painted another coastal scene which was going well, but then I ruined it and decided enough was enough!

Anyway, back to the acrylics today and much happier! Hope you are enjoying my daily art!

I started a Facebook Group two days ago called Cat Salter Daily Paintings and have already loads of members!

Had to work late last night to get this painting done! It took longer than I thought it would. Surprising how something so simple looking can be such a challenge!

I took this photo at Portobello Market in a small cafe and liked the light striking the cup and the froth on the teaspoon! Will get on with a painting earlier today!

Wine Class Shadow SOLD

This was a difficult subject! Amazing how much detail there is to see in a wine glass!

Started a Facebook Group yesterday and was amazed how many people joined up so quickly! Lovely! Well, I sold one of my paintings 'Converse with me'. The first of my daily paintings! It is like one of your children going out into the world....

I am back painting after a break of a few weeks. Christmas got in the way and it is hard to find enough light to paint by in the winter months! Then we were snowed in and my girls have been home from school....I know it sounds like excuses...well it is!

Never mind! Am painting now!

School Murals

I went over to see the two schools yesterday which I had painted the Murals for a couple of months ago to see them installed! I must say they looked great and the teachers say that the kids really enjoy them! Very satisfying! I had painted lots of little bugs, beetles and butterflies in the woodland scene for the Nursery School and apparently the children really enjoy finding them each time the go outside!

I have had a few day off painting but today I am hoping to fit in a 'daily piece'......

I am still here......

I have become caught up in doing some website work and putting my work up on Redbubble!

I have spent many hours re-learning about painting over the last few weeks and so I have decide to put up on my website what I have learnt to help others. Only done oil painting materials so far! I will be back to the painting tomorrow....

'Grapefruits in Glass'

'Grapefruits in Glass'
Acrylic on Canvas Board (30x30cm)
For Sale £75 (inc worldwide shipping)

I am a day in hand! I have just finished this painting and it is still light so I can photograph it and put it up now!

People are always frightened of painting glass but it really is very easy! Just paint the reflections 'over' the items in the bowl and add a bit of white paint for sparkle a reflection. Hey presto! I like the sunny, light feel to this painting.

I am going to put the paintings up for auction soon now that I have a good stock.......

'Juicy Bites' SOLD

'Juicy bites'
Acrylic on Canvas Board (30x30cm)
SOLD

Again, I have really enjoyed the way the light is catching these Oranges. Where I paint, gets lovely morning sun and it is the perfect place to work. I think it is amazing how a simple subject can be so enjoyable to paint. Really, it is sometimes more difficult to paint a 'simple' composition.

'Come back Shadow!'
Acrylic on Canvas Board (30x30cm)
For Sale £75 (inc worldwide shipping)

I really enjoyed painting this little flower yesterday so I thought I would paint it again in another of my little vases! (I do have a lot of them collected from holidays!)

I love the way the flower's shadow looks as though it is trying to get away and the flower seems to be following it! Am I being too fanciful, do you think? Anyway,

'Shadow Dance' SOLD

'Shadow Dance' Acrylic on Canvas Board (30x30cm) SOLD

This is such a sweet little green pot which has sat gathering dust for years on a shelf! It is the perfect vase for this geranium which was still flowering in November in my garden! I am very pleased with the composition of this painting. I love the simplicity of it and the shadow that the flower casts on the wall.

Went back to Acrylics today as I don't have a lot of room to leave the oils to dry! Probably try and do one a week.

New Canvases and Shop!

30 new canvas boards have just been delivered so I can get going on some more painting today!

While I had nothing to paint on over the weekend, I set up a Zazzle Shop! What a clever idea! So now it is possible to buy the paintings on different products; cards, canvas prints, mugs, mousemats, bags etc!

'Underfoot'

'Underfoot'
Acrylic on Canvas Board (30x30cm)
For Sale £75 (inc worldwide shipping)

Have just finished the painting and it is getting dark outside. This is the trouble with painting in the winter!

Loved these leaves when I saw them during a rain storm last weekend in Cambridge. They seem to epitomise this Autumn with lots of rain but beautiful coloured leaves still on the trees. Bit of a challenge trying to make them look wet but, if I tell you it was a wet day, that should help!

'Consider the Lilies of the Field"

'Consider the Lilies of the field'
Acrylic on Canvas Board (30x30cm)
For Sale £75 (inc worldwide shipping)

I love lilies! I always have a bunch in the house and these were catching the light so beautifully this morning that I thought they were worthy of a portrait!

I am getting into the swing of a painting a day! You do have to set aside the time and make yourself do it but, it is a lovely way to pass the time! Have booked the domain names www.dailyart.co.uk and www.apaintingaday.co.uk and have pointed them to this blog in the mean time. Now need to build a website for them.

Too good to eat - SOLD

'Too good to eat' Acrylic on Canvas Board (30x30cm) SOLD

The title of this painting says it all! Vine Tomatoes always look too good to eat! I hate pulling them off the vine and spoiling the look of it! Bought these this morning for supper tonight and just had to paint there gorgeous shininess!

Am getting into my stride now with these small paintings. I normally paint large canvases and it has taken me a few days to learn to work small again. I think I need to go out and buy some new brushes. My small ones are rather misshaped and have suffered from a bit of neglect! Never neglect your brushes; always clean them out properly!
